Trolling Along

We have hand! I spent a lot of time this weekend drawing and redrawing the hand and I think its finally set. He had five fingers initially, but I painted over one to see how he'd look, then I covered another, giving him an alien paw which I'm happy with. Could also be that maybe he's had to eat them thar digits, ladyfolk on the bridge bein' a rare occurence. I was debating whether or not to add a little pile of skulls under the bridge by his feet, but thought that might be a little too gruesome, a little too forced....no skulls leaves it more to the viewers imagination, makes it a little sweeter, more King-Kongy (what with its romantic beastiality and whatnot). I also had a mini epiphany regarding the composition and its symbols :) The troll is me, the bridge is an animation table, the human is a puppet.....

I also fleshed out the female a bit, and the back wall of the bridge......

More Seaclops coming tomorrow....

Hey, who's that gnomish little Germanic fellow I just passed on the way in?

Anyway, the painting is lookink - er, I mean looking Great!!! Watch the stone shapes on that far wall of the bridge don't look like steps (that's what I thought they were at first). Love the background foliage!

Also, nice to know Dean-o petered out and poses no threat in your neck of the woods. Guess the moon didn't hit your eye after all! Heh... we had a pretty strong blow the other night - must've been Dean-o Spawned.... immediately I had that damn song ringing through my head!!! And for some reason I wanted a martini.....

Thanks yo!

Yes, Dean went straight across the Gulf, swept through Mexico.....'nother two months left of the season....and tomorrow is the 2 year anniversary of Katrina....

Ahhhh my mother.....she was a tiny woman.... :)

Those are supposed to be steps, at least the darker brown at the foot of the bridge is supposed to be....then you can see just the corner/edge of the steps going up...

And yeah, i hadn't noticed the wombyness of the pose :)

Ub, I love watching this painting emerge and I love your analogy of you as the animator, it could be a painting of that too. hee.

I mistakenly thought the back wall stone work coming on were really well drawn steps on the bridge, of course that would make the rail too shallow but can you see how good those look?

Love the hand and the foliage. W00t!

Diggin' the blue-gray underside of the bridge. A good, bold contrast with the yellow-green next to it -- and with the brighter occurrence of that same yellow-green in the halo around the hand.

(If ya hadn't already guessed, I'm a sucker for the vivid and contrasting colors.)

I like the reflection of white sky in the water, and the nearly purple water in the lower right hand corner, too.

Thanks peeps....Sven, that blue-gray is actually a purple, one of my favorite colors, recurs in most of my painting....ultramarine blue mixed with alizarin crimson, both constants on my palette, Ive done whole paintings with just these two colors.....equal parts makes a yummy deep black-purple, like the reflection of the underside of the bridge...
