A Bit About the New Series

I'm not sure exactly what to call this series of paintings, I was thinking something like "NOLA ReImagined" but I'm still tossing ideas around....I don't know, I've never actually done a series before, it may be easier to name when more paintings are done...speaking of which, I know I was on quite a roll there last week, but then I got stuck on #4, the Irish Channel Banshee....I haven't found a pose I love for the Banshee but I'm getting closer....here's what I've got so far...(background done, crowd and banshee hardly worked on)...

You may have noticed the palette? Purples, greens, and golds, the colors of Mardi Gras....with a few exceptions, like the classic red wheel of the Riverboat, I'll be adhering strictly to this palette for all of these pieces...
Here are a few of the reference photos I've used so far....

Troll Quickie

I've decided not to rush through Unearthed for the sake of a Film Fest, there's always next year...the decision was made when I realized I was starting to sacrifice elements of the story in order to cut down on the time it would take me to complete it, and I don't want to compromise (not yet anyway, not while I'm still my own boss :) I'll be ready to compromise when (if?) I ever work a pro job on someone else's team)....
I was feeling overwhelmed the other day, so many unfinished projects laying about, and I was overcome with a desire to start and finish something, so I dug out a 5"x7" canvas board and painted up a quickie mini-troll painting....probably 4-5 hours of work, acrylics, framed and hanging on the wall, ahhhhhhh :) And I think I'm hooked now, Ive already started a second mini canvas, a cemetery scene natch....

Unearthed Update

Welcome me to the 20th century! The Lady and I, frustrated with our new digital converter box and slowly loosing the few television channels we get (even with the box), finally decided last week to sign up for cable. Also, some of that newfangled high speed internet! Nope, no more dial-up for us, no sir! We're movin' on up :)
Its nice to have blogs pop up instantly, no waiting and waiting while the images load....and to be able to watch clips and youtube vids without waiting for hours....*ahhhhh*......cant wait for my first upload!!...so much free time now, I may get to finish "Unearthed" on time...
My plan for "Unearthed" was to have it ready for the New Orleans Film Fest in October, which I assumed would have, say, an August deadline.....nope....deadline is May 8 (and thats the late one). So the question becomes---do I attempt it? Kill myself for three months, finally get it done (maybe) and focus on Jenny Greenteeth (she's getting bored swimmin' 'round me head...)?
Let's go over what needs to be done yet:
Ive got to finish post on the cemetery gate sequence, film the cemetery scene along with the ghost footage and composite/edit/go "post"al on it....I've got a scene of Herbie exploring the woods, following trails, woods will be moss and those same old trees you've been seeing in my films (they will be retired after this short :)...anyways those bits are done, just need to be set up and filmed (just!)....I've got to recast foam Herbie, finish the Living Hill set/the cave opening in the stone giantess, and to do that I need to mold (alginate) and cast (plaster) the Lady's arms/hands....that sets about 60% done....I've got to finish the cave set, about 70% done, and Herbie's bedroom set, about 50% done....then I have to film/edit the scenes of Herbie discovering the giantess, entering the cave, stealing the treasure from its murky depths, returning home, accidentally activating the treasure, waking the giantess, who smashes into his bedroom, grabbing him and...well...swallowing him...which involves some bits of the Lady pixellated while interacting with the set and puppet....which I've never ever tried before and seems reeeeeaaaaally complicated.....

Yeeeeahhhh, no, I don't think that'll be possible.........

But I suppose I could try.....
